Before the stage, before the crowd, there was a special-needs kid with a stutter who got shoved into lockers for the way he talked. His smile, the thing that looked like a weakness, was really his armor. Phoenix Rising: The Beginning’s End starts there, with the boy who became Johnny G, then J.C. Introduction
That Saturday started with a meeting, brand strategy, the website, my own music, the kind you walk out of and the air feels different.
I was still riding that high, cloud nine, when I got to Hillsborough River State Park.
The band was already deep in the groove. We were the last piece to fall into place.
Funny thing about that feeling: the second you fully believe it, the universe tends to have a different opinion.

Smile, not because it’s easy. Because it’s power.
It wasn’t just a song about love. It was a battle cry, joy used as a shield when everything around you seems to crumble. Every laugh that had once been aimed at me came back under those lights. So I sang louder.

Saturday in the Park
We’re alive tonight.
Then a low hum crept in beneath the music. My joy started to feel fragile, like it was too good to last. The perfection turned into pressure. The melody became noise. We live in static until we tune back in.

Beginnings
To have a beginning, you must face an ending.
I used to think trauma defined my starting point. Now I understand, it was my proving ground.
Every person in that crowd had a beginning they were too scared to admit. I was ready to admit mine.

Time is cruel.
It doesn’t care how many locker doors, how many cruel jokes, how many nights you promised yourself you’d make it this far. One second, I was untouchable. The next, the fall.
Exit stage left. Darkness.
